The Project of Collecting Historic Data of Old Scientists’ Academic Life

The Project of Collecting Historic Data of Old Scientists’ Academic Life, as a rescue project approved by the leaders of the State Council, is implemented by CAST jointly with eleven ministries and commissions including the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Education. This program was officially launched in 2010. Up to Jun 2018, academic growth data have been acquired from 512 scientists, and the preciously historical data of Chinese modern and contemporary scientists have been accumulated, featured by the maximum scale, richest content and most extensive types in China. According to the incomplete statistics, the data accumulatively obtained in this program include 105,228 original materials (manuscripts and letters), 256,058 pieces of digital data,361,518 min-long video data and 419,341 min-long audio data; and 62 biography series on the Acquisition Program have been published.
 

In March 2016, National Science Communication Center, including Scientist Museum of China (entity museum) was approved to be built up by the State Council. The Scientist Museum of China is the exclusive national-level museum themed as the scientist groups over the world. Upon its completion, the museum will be a collection management center for document and physical objects of Chinese scientists, a research center for academic thoughts, a popularization and exhibition center for scientific spirit and scientific culture, a key base for cultivating scientific spirit, innovative spirit and patriotism education, a landmark and symbol of Chinese national scientific culture, and a national-level platform for exhibiting, cultivating and developing scientific culture.
 

Scientist Museum of China (online edition), an all-round three-dimensional portal website for Chinese scientists, shows the academic growth process of Chinese modern scientists. It has collected 331 digital records of scientists' academic life, including 6761 precious historical documents, 792 biography reports, 253 video materials, 298 chronology menus, and 106 books of biographies of scientists. The online museum aims to give an overview of Chinese scientists' spirit of innovation, patriotism, and contributions to science.
