The article presents an overview of development directions in the field of gravitational wave astronomy and the global distribution of its top talent over the past 10 years. It does so through a scientometic analysis of data on high-citation papers in the field. The analysis shows a big gap between China and advanced countries in the field. In terms of top talent, the total number of highly regarded international experts is 167 times the number from China, indicating a serious shortage of human resources in this field in China. The global distribution of such talent is primarily Japan and countries in the West, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Israel and Spain.
