Large numbers of Chinese overseas students have acquired knowledge of advanced science, technology and management that has given them strong innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. They now have the global vision, experience and passion to serve the motherland. They constitute an important force in promoting China’s socioeconomic growth as S&T innovation pioneers, business starters, government advisors, bridges for China’s opening up initiatives, and ambassadors of international non-governmental exchanges and cooperation. This article provides an analysis of the collective features of China’s overseas students in terms of numbers, ages, destination countries and universities, and specialties.
